The government of Kazakhstan has signed a package of agreements with American companies Nvidia and Firebird, valued at an estimated $10 billion. The aim is to build a massive computing cluster powered by over 100,000 Nvidia GB300 and Vera Rubin graphics processors, creating what officials call the Data Center Valley.
The project, officially named the Data Center Valley, is designed to serve both domestic and international clients across Central Asia. Kazakhstan will provide 1,400 hectares of land and guarantee stable, secure electricity supplies for the facility.
Firebird, a specialist in high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for artificial intelligence, will prepare the supercomputer systems. The venture is expected to generate $3 billion in annual export revenue from computing and cloud services.
A strategic hub for Central Asia
The initiative positions Kazakhstan as a regional leader in AI infrastructure. The country aims to attract customers from neighboring states, offering advanced computing power for AI model training and data processing.
– This investment will create a platform for a new economy based on AI tokens and high-performance computing – said a representative of the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development.
The cluster will use Nvidia’s latest GB300 chips, which are specifically designed for large-scale AI workloads. The Vera Rubin architecture, also from Nvidia, is expected to deliver significant performance improvements over previous generations.
Energy and land commitments
Kazakhstan’s contribution of 1,400 hectares and a reliable power supply is critical for such a power-intensive operation. The country has abundant energy resources, including natural gas and renewables, which can support the data center’s needs.
– We are confident that Kazakhstan can provide the stable energy environment required for this world-class facility – added the official.
The project is part of a broader strategy to diversify Kazakhstan’s economy away from oil and gas, embracing digital technologies. The first phase of construction is expected to begin within the next year, with commercial operations starting in 2028.
Nvidia has been expanding its global footprint, partnering with governments and private firms to build AI infrastructure. The Kazachstan deal is one of the largest single investments in regional AI capacity outside of China and the United States.
