Gas port in Świnoujście slows down. Impact of Middle East war becomes visible

The LNG terminal in Świnoujście has received its 34th delivery of liquefied natural gas this year, but the pace is noticeably declining compared to the record-setting 2025. The first June shipment, carried by the Clean Mistral tanker, originates from the United States and marks the 14th consecutive American delivery.

While the terminal typically handles around 80 shipments annually, this year’s numbers are already trailing. In 2025, the 34th delivery arrived on June 2, a day earlier than this year’s June 5 arrival. The slowdown, though still marginal, is attributed to the conflict in the Middle East, specifically the US-Israeli military action against Iran that has blocked the Strait of Hormuz.

Katari gas deliveries suspended

The blockade has halted shipments from Qatar, which had been supplying Poland with a cargo roughly every 20 days. The last Qatari delivery reached Świnoujście on March 24. With the strait still closed, no new date for the next Qatari shipment can be set. Even if shipping resumes by the end of June, the earliest possible arrival would be September due to voyage times.

The current US cargo was loaded in Ingleside, Texas, under a contract with Cheniere Energy. The 300-meter-long Clean Mistral can transport about 105 million cubic meters of natural gas after regasification.

Unusual schedule and outlook for 2026

Interestingly, the next delivery is already scheduled for Sunday, June 7, an unusually short interval between arrivals. This is partly due to favorable sailing conditions. The tanker Święta Barbara, part of Orlen’s fleet, is currently passing the Danish Skagen cape. After that, the next delivery will be delayed by over a week.

Overall, the number of shipments this year may barely exceed 70, far below the terminal’s maximum capacity of over 80 per year. Everything depends on whether Qatari gas returns to the market.
