Budimex close to winning bypass construction tender. Nearly PLN 400 million at stake

Budimex has submitted the highest-rated offer in the tender for the design and construction of the bypass of Brzostek and Kołaczyce along national road No. 73. The company’s bid amounts to almost PLN 356.9 million, just short of the PLN 400 million threshold that marks the total estimated value of the project.

The announcement was made by Budimex in a stock market filing on Tuesday. However, the company stressed that the evaluation process is not yet complete. “This does not mean the selection of the offer as the most advantageous, as the evaluation procedure has not been finalized,” the company stated.

The tender is being conducted by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). The contract covers both design and construction work, which typically means a multi-year timeline and significant revenue for the winning contractor. If Budimex officially secures the deal, it will strengthen its backlog in the roadbuilding segment.

First-quarter results show weather-related slump

Separately, Budimex reported its financial results for the first quarter of 2026. The group’s revenue reached nearly PLN 1.5 billion, while net profit stood at PLN 87.2 million. In the same period a year earlier, revenue was over PLN 1.6 billion and net profit reached PLN 110.3 million.

The decline was attributed mainly to adverse weather conditions. “The reduction was a consequence of several factors, the main one being unfavorable weather conditions in the first two months of 2026 – a frosty and snowy winter lasting much longer than in the previous year,” Budimex explained in its report. The impact was felt across the company’s road construction, general building, and railway segments.

Market context and outlook for 2026

Despite the quarterly dip, Budimex remains one of the largest construction groups in Poland, with a diversified portfolio. The company is often seen as a bellwether for the domestic infrastructure market. Investors have reacted positively to the tender news: the company’s stock (BDX) rose by over 4% on Friday, reaching PLN 674.40.

The Polish roadbuilding sector is expected to pick up in the coming months as major government programs accelerate spending on national and local roads. For Budimex, winning this PLN 356.9 million contract would provide a solid foundation for the second half of the year, helping to offset the slow start caused by the harsh winter.
