Volodymyr Zelensky says Vladimir Putin is preparing a secret mass mobilization because he cannot win the war in Ukraine. In an interview with Ukrainian broadcaster TSN, the president also warned that the Kremlin may try to manipulate agreements signed with the United States.
The Ukrainian leader argued that Putin is not ready to end the war on fair terms. According to Zelensky, the Russian president is desperately looking for at least a few „victories” that could justify the enormous losses his nation has suffered.
Zelensky also listed hundreds of thousands of cyberattacks, missile strikes and intimidation as tools Moscow will use.
– We must understand, together with you, what is happening with the Russians, to understand that they will do anything. There will be hundreds of thousands of cyberattacks, there will be missile attacks, there will be intimidation, etc. They do not change. Why? Listen, he cannot, Putin cannot yet win this war. He needs it. He seeks it at the cost of Ukraine – said Volodymyr Zelensky.
Hidden draft and pressure on Europe
Zelensky described the mobilization plans as deliberate and large-scale, but hidden. He said the Kremlin intends to use secret contracts and closed borders to draft hundreds of thousands of Russians.
According to the president, these forces are not meant for the front line in Ukraine only. Moscow also wants to use them to put psychological pressure on European countries.
No concessions and no guarantees
Zelensky ruled out any concessions on Ukrainian territory. He rejected the idea of withdrawing from Donbas or surrendering his nation, arguing that nobody in the world can guarantee that the Russian aggressor would not go further.
The president also said Putin’s attempts to bargain or make demands to the American side amount to manipulation. In his view, the Kremlin leader will twist the conditions discussed with the American president in order to convince the Americans to allow him to seize a larger part of Ukraine.
– He will twist these conditions that they discussed with the American side, with the US president. He will twist them back and forth. No one guarantees that this man will not go further. Absolutely no one guarantees this and no one is ready to guarantee it – said Volodymyr Zelensky.
