Velobank has finalized the migration of retail accounts from Citi Handlowy and has now initiated group layoff procedures. The bank notified the local labor office and began consultations with trade unions to determine the scale of redundancies.
The integration of approximately 500,000 retail accounts, along with the rebranding of former Citi Handlowy branches, was completed on June 15, 2026. The process was not without technical difficulties, but the bank stated that all services are now running smoothly.
In a statement sent to WNP, Velobank spokesperson Monika Banyś-Bator confirmed that the next phase of integration focuses on building a target organizational structure. „We have informed the relevant labor office and trade unions and started the statutory social consultation process,” she said.
Integration and restructuring
Velobank acquired the retail segment of Citi Handlowy earlier this year, taking over branches, customer accounts, and employees. Most of those employees are now expected to lose their jobs as the bank streamlines operations.
„This is a difficult but necessary step in building a stronger and more competitive bank for our clients and employees,” said Adam Marciniak, CEO of Velobank. He stressed that the process will be conducted fairly, transparently, and with respect for every affected worker.
Employee support and severance
Employees affected by the layoffs will receive severance packages compliant with legal requirements and access to outplacement support. „The final scope of support will be subject to agreements with trade unions,” Marciniak added.
Velobank assured that its day‑to‑day operations and client services will not be disrupted during the transition period. The bank’s majority shareholder is the U.S. fund Cerberus (80.2%), with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Finance Corporation each holding 9.9%.
