Unfair prosumers in the spotlight. Record-holder 'boosted’ installation almost 15 times

Enea Operator has identified thousands of irregularities among prosumers connected to its grid. The most extreme case involved an installation that was supposed to have a capacity of 48.4 kW but in reality was feeding nearly 700 kW into the network – almost 15 times more than declared.

Out of 200,000 micro-installations in the Enea Operator area, the company flagged 5,400 cases that required clarification due to discrepancies between declared and actual power or improper energy feed-in. By mid-2026, the operator had conducted 430 on-site inspections. In 14 cases, customers refused to cooperate, which will result in further sanctions.

How the system was abused

Most prosumers comply with the rules, but some knowingly misrepresent their installations. The record-holder attached a photovoltaic system to the grid that was documented as 48.4 kW, while on-site measurements showed it was generating around 700 kW. Such a massive discrepancy overloads the local network and can cause voltage fluctuations that affect neighbouring households.

– We initiated physical checks after analysing measurement data. The vast majority of customers responded to our calls and corrected the documentation – said a spokesperson for Enea Operator.

Broader problem across Poland

Similar controls are being carried out by other distribution system operators. In late 2023, Tauron Dystrybucja reported that more than half of the household micro-PV installations it inspected had higher capacity than declared. The problem is also reported by other prosumers themselves, whose inverters switch off when voltage exceeds safe levels due to nearby oversized systems. The standard voltage range is 207-253 V; above that, inverters shut down automatically to protect equipment.

Enea Operator stresses that accurate knowledge of connected sources is essential for grid management and preventing overloads. The company will continue inspections and pursue legal action against those who deliberately mislead the operator.
