Two people have died during this year’s Ozora Festival in Hungary. Among the victims are a 45-year-old American citizen who fell from a structure by the main stage and a 39-year-old woman whose heart suddenly stopped.
Ozora is one of Europe’s best-known events dedicated to psychedelic music and culture, drawing thousands of visitors from around the world each year. This year’s edition, however, was overshadowed by two separate emergencies that ended in the deaths of a man and a woman.
Fall from decorative construction
According to police from Fejér County, the American man climbed onto decorative elements surrounding the main stage on Saturday, 1 August, at around 4 p.m. He then fell from height, and festival organizers immediately alerted emergency services.
The case is being handled by police in Sárbogárd. Investigators have so far ruled out the involvement of third parties. Based on the evidence collected, they believe the man may have intended to take his own life.
The second victim was a 39-year-old woman who suffered sudden cardiac arrest. Paramedics reached her within minutes and tried to resuscitate her, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Festival stops early and announces new safety rules
After the two fatal incidents, the organizers decided to cut the festival’s music program short. They offered condolences to the families and loved ones of the dead and asked participants to show mutual care, empathy and kindness.
– This year we lost two members of our community. We will not forget them and we do not want to simply move on – the organizers said in a statement.
The tragedy prompted them to introduce changes for the next edition. From next year, tents, canopies, chairs, tables and other camping equipment will only be allowed in camping areas. The organizers stressed that the dance floor should remain a space intended exclusively for dancing.
