Russia prepares for attack. It may happen as early as September

The next two months could be crucial for Vladimir Putin’s strategy in the war in Ukraine. Military analyst Robert Fox points to three signals suggesting the Kremlin may be planning to intensify actions against Europe.

In a commentary for the British daily „The Independent,” military analyst Robert Fox stated that three indicators suggest Vladimir Putin might soon „throw himself at Europe.” He noted that „Russia functions as a war economy, and Putin has become a war leader. Peace does not fit into his vision of his own political survival.”

According to Fox, the prolonged war lasting into winter could push Putin to take even more radical steps. He argues that one possible scenario involves announcing partial or full mobilization, which would allow Russia to recruit at least 500,000 new soldiers. Such a move would likely also mean the introduction of full martial law in Russia.

Three warning signals

Fox identified three main signals indicating that Russia is preparing for a larger offensive. The first is the complete transformation of the Russian economy into a war economy, with production lines focused on military needs. The second signal is Putin’s increasing reliance on a war narrative to maintain his grip on power. The third is the growing intensity of Russian military preparations along the borders with NATO member states.

„At that point, Kyiv and its Baltic neighbors will have to seriously consider their own air defenses. This applies to all European NATO allies,” the expert wrote.

What it means for Europe

If Moscow indeed decides to launch a direct attack on a NATO member, the alliance would face an unprecedented challenge. The analyst emphasizes that European countries must urgently boost their defensive capabilities, particularly in air defense and missile systems, given the pace of Russian weapon production.

Fox also warns that a Russian offensive could be aimed at testing NATO’s solidarity and response time. While a full-scale invasion remains unlikely in the immediate term, the risk of a localized strike against a vulnerable target cannot be ruled out.

Polish and Baltic officials have repeatedly called on NATO to increase its military presence on the eastern flank. The coming weeks will be decisive for the alliance’s strategy and for the overall security architecture in Europe.
