Russia prepares for attack. It may happen as early as september

Russia is preparing for a potential attack on Europe that could occur as early as September, warns military analyst Robert Fox. In a commentary for The Independent, Fox points to three signals suggesting that Vladimir Putin is ready to escalate the war against Ukraine and target NATO allies directly.

According to Fox, the Kremlin has shifted to a full war economy, making Putin a wartime leader who sees no place for peace in his political survival. The analyst argues that as the conflict drags toward winter, the Russian president may radicalise his approach.

Three warning signs

Fox identifies three key indicators. First, Russia is preparing a large-scale mobilisation – either partial or full – aimed at securing at least 500,000 new soldiers. Second, this would likely be accompanied by the introduction of martial law across the entire country. Third, such moves would directly threaten Kyiv and the Baltic states, forcing all European NATO members to urgently review their air defence capabilities.

– Kyiv and its Baltic neighbours will have to seriously consider their own anti-aircraft defence. This applies to all European allies in NATO – wrote Fox.

A potential escalation

The analyst believes that Putin may use the coming weeks to escalate the conflict significantly before winter sets in. The Russian economy is already militarised, and any attempt to negotiate peace would be seen by the Kremlin as a threat to its internal stability.

European intelligence services have also noted an increase in Russian reconnaissance flights near NATO borders and cyberattacks on critical infrastructure. These activities are interpreted as preparation for a broader confrontation.

NATO officials have responded by calling for increased readiness among member states. Poland, as a frontline country, has already announced additional air defence deployments along its eastern border. The situation is being monitored closely by defence ministries across the alliance.
