Russia may attack using Ukrainian drones. Poland at risk

Russia could strike Poland without declaring war, using sabotage, disinformation, and hybrid provocations. Experts warn that the goal is not territorial conquest but the creation of chaos and social division. Drone attacks, cyber assaults, and fake narratives are becoming the weapons of a new type of conflict.

Polish security services have observed the reactivation of previously dormant social media accounts, now aggressively stoking tensions in Polish-Ukrainian relations and deepening internal political divisions. According to analysts, this is not a coincidence but part of a broader operation aimed at eroding public support for continued aid to Ukraine.

The most dangerous modern conflicts do not begin with troops crossing borders. Before the first shots are fired, the battle for emotions, trust, and citizens’ sense of security is already underway. This is precisely why hybrid operations have long been one of the Kremlin’s most effective tools.

Russian hybrid warfare: A new front line

Moscow’s hybrid activities extend far beyond online propaganda. Their targets are now critical infrastructure, transport networks, energy systems, and logistics – everything that keeps the state functioning. In recent years, cases of arson at warehouses, attempted damage to railway infrastructure, destruction of telecommunication networks, and GPS signal jamming have been uncovered.

Drones are increasingly mentioned as a tool of provocation. One scenario under consideration involves Russia using captured Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles or hijacking them via electronic warfare systems and redirecting them at targets on Polish soil. Such an incident could cause massive confusion before the perpetrators could be clearly identified.

Poland’s critical infrastructure in the crosshairs

Russian operations have long followed a single pattern – first a narrative is created, then actions appear to lend it credibility. Analysts from DisInfo Digest point to Russian media messages suggesting that European states have been involved in transporting explosives intended for attacks on the Crimean Bridge. Experts say such information is designed to paint the West as an accomplice to terrorism and to create a propaganda pretext for further Kremlin moves.

Similar mechanisms were observed before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, when Russian propaganda spread false claims about biological weapons labs and planned provocations involving a so-called dirty bomb. Today artificial intelligence has become an additional tool, allowing for the rapid creation of convincingly realistic materials.

The weaponization of information

Experts have no doubt that the most valuable outcome of Russian operations is not the destruction of a single facility, but the weakening of the entire society’s resilience. Every act of sabotage, every provocation, and every disinformation campaign is meant to generate uncertainty, mutual suspicion, and the feeling that the state is losing control over the situation.

– The ultimate goal is not physical destruction but the erosion of social trust and the sense of security – said an analyst from DisInfo Digest. This makes hybrid warfare an exceptionally effective tool of pressure for the Kremlin. It allows Russia to test the reactions of Poland and the entire NATO, push further boundaries, and exert political pressure without starting an open armed conflict. For many specialists, this makes it one of the most realistic threats to regional security today.
