Record dividend, loud debut, retreat from highs. Wse still without direction

The past week on the Warsaw Stock Exchange started with a new high for the WIG20 index at 3,788 points, but ended with a sharp retreat that pushed it below the key 3,700 level. The broad WIG index briefly pierced the historic 14,000-point barrier, only to follow the same downward path. Investors witnessed a record dividend from Orlen, a splashy debut from Canadian miner Lumina Metals, and a clear shift in sentiment driven by external factors.

The WIG20 closed the week 0.8% lower, though the drop was partly exaggerated by the deduction of Orlen’s dividend from the index. The mid-cap mWIG40 crept up 0.2%, while the blue-chip sWIG80 lost 0.8%. The broad WIG managed a marginal 0.1% gain, but the overall picture was one of hesitation after the early euphoria.

– From the five-session decline of 0.94% in WIG20, only the size of the weekly black candle matters, strengthening the resistance zone around 3,700 points, but not necessarily ending the bulls’ game for a new high. However, the week also showed that a new problem for WIG20 is the sell-off in commodity markets due to the US-Iran deal and the dollar’s strengthening, driven by hawkish signals from the Fed – commented Adam Stańczak, analyst at DM BOŚ.

Orlen’s dividend and the Permira exit

On Wednesday, Orlen paid out a record dividend of 8 PLN per share. Tuesday was the last day to buy shares with the right to the payout. On Tuesday’s close, the oil giant’s shares were worth 138.4 PLN; on Wednesday, the reference price was set at 130.4 PLN after deducting the dividend. Orlen ended the week at 125.6 PLN, valuing the company at 146 billion PLN.

Allegro had an outstanding week, jumping 14% to 39.4 PLN. The rebound came after the Permira fund sold its remaining 131 million shares on June 15, completely exiting the shareholder structure. Permira’s regular block trades had been a persistent drag on the stock. At the same time, apparel stocks continued their recent divergence: LPP dropped over 10% to 18,450 PLN, while Modivo, deeply beaten down, gained another 13% and has now risen 23% from its early-June low.

Lumina Metals debuts, Asbis shines on AI

Canadian company Lumina Metals, which had already listed in Toronto in April, made its dual debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange on Tuesday. It was the seventh listing this year and the 402nd company on the Polish market. On debut day, shares closed over 20% above the reference price, but the gains faded during the week, and by Friday the stock stood at 31.8 PLN versus the reference of 29.9 PLN. Lumina owns copper and silver deposits in the Lubuskie region and plans to cooperate closely with KGHM, Poland’s dominant player in the sector.

The tech group Asbis posted a 10% weekly gain and hit another record high. The company points to the development of AI data center infrastructure as its main growth driver for 2026 and 2027. – Asbis expects strong double-digit sales growth this year, driven mainly by investments in AI data center infrastructure, Apple device sales boosted by the next hardware renewal cycle, and the expansion of premium retail chains – said CEO Sergiej Kostewicz during an investor conference.

Shares of Syn2bio, a Synektik spin-off focused on developing a cardiac tracer, rose over 20% in the week. The company aims to successfully complete clinical work on the new cardiovascular imaging agent.
