R.Power, one of Poland’s largest renewable energy developers, has signed a credit agreement with UniCredit Bank and ING Bank to build four photovoltaic power plants in Romania. The total financing amounts to 34.1 million euros and 39.5 million Romanian lei (approximately 7.5 million euros).
The investment loan will be used to construct four solar farms with a combined capacity of 75 MWp. The financing package also includes ancillary facilities such as VAT financing on capital expenditures and a guarantee line to secure obligations under a contract for difference mechanism.
R.Power stated that the funds will be released after standard conditions precedent are met, including the submission of relevant project documentation and the establishment of customary security for lenders.
Expanding renewable footprint in Romania
This is not the first major project for R.Power in Romania. Earlier in June, a subsidiary of the group signed a credit agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Poland’s Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) worth around 46.5 million euros.
The EBRD loan is earmarked for the construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania, while BGK will provide a guarantee to secure obligations under a service agreement for the same storage facility.
Strategic push into southeastern Europe
R.Power has been actively expanding its presence beyond Poland, targeting markets with high solar irradiation and supportive regulatory frameworks. Romania, with its ambitious renewable energy targets and improving grid infrastructure, has become a key destination for Polish developers.
The company’s portfolio now includes several projects under construction or in advanced development stages in Romania, reflecting a broader trend of Polish capital flowing into the Balkan renewable market.
