R.power secures financing for four solar farms in Romania

A company from the R.Power group has signed a credit agreement with UniCredit Bank and ING Bank to finance the construction of four photovoltaic power plants in Romania. The total capacity of the installations will reach 75 MWp, and the obtained funding amounts to 34.1 million euros and 39.5 million Romanian lei (equivalent to 7.5 million euros).

The financing will cover the construction of the solar farms and includes auxiliary facilities such as VAT financing for capital expenditures and a guarantee line, among others, to secure obligations under the contract for difference. The funds will be disbursed after meeting standard conditions, including the submission of project documentation and the establishment of collateral for the lenders.

R.Power is one of the largest renewable energy developers in Poland, actively expanding its portfolio in Central and Eastern Europe. The Romanian project represents a significant step in the company’s international growth strategy.

Project details and financial structure

The four solar power plants will have a combined capacity of 75 MWp. The financing from UniCredit and ING is structured as a senior loan with additional facilities. – The financing also includes auxiliary support, such as VAT financing for capital expenditures and a guarantee line to secure obligations under the contract for difference – read the company’s statement.

This is not the first major financial transaction for R.Power in Romania. At the beginning of June, a subsidiary of the group signed a credit agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) for a total of approximately 46.5 million euros. That funding was designated for a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania, with BGK providing guarantees for services under the storage agreement.

Strategic expansion in Romania

Romania is becoming an increasingly important market for renewable energy developers, thanks to its favorable solar conditions and supportive regulatory framework. R.Power’s investment aligns with the country’s goals to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The company’s projects in Romania are part of a broader trend of Polish renewable energy firms seeking opportunities abroad. The combination of bank debt and development finance institution support indicates strong confidence in the viability of these projects.

The four solar farms are expected to be operational within the next two years, contributing to Romania’s target of reaching 30% renewable energy in gross final consumption by 2030. The financing from UniCredit and ING, along with the earlier EBRD and BGK support, underscores the growing role of international lenders in funding green energy transitions in emerging European markets.
