R.Power is approaching the commissioning of the Lazuri solar farm in northwestern Romania. The installation, with a capacity of 55 MWp, consists of nearly 89,000 modules and is expected to generate around 70 GWh of electricity annually. Energisation is scheduled for later in 2026.
The farm is being built in Satu Mare County. Once operational, it will be one of the larger photovoltaic installations in Romania, with annual generation expected to match the electricity consumption of more than 44,000 households. Completion of construction marks the transition to the next stage of the investment for R.Power, namely preparing the installation for operation and starting commercial operations.
– The completion of construction at Lazuri is an important milestone for R.Power in Romania. The project has progressed efficiently from development and financing to advanced construction work, and we are now preparing for energisation and the start of operations. Romania remains a key market for R.Power, and we look forward to the moment when Lazuri begins supplying electricity to the grid – says Florin Federenciuc, R.Power Country Head in Romania.
The Lazuri project is covered by a 15 year contract for difference (CfD), a mechanism for settling electricity prices against an agreed reference level. Such an arrangement can make revenue from electricity generation more predictable and facilitate the financing of renewable energy investments.
Project financing has been provided by ING Bank N.V. and UniCredit Bank S.A. The €41.6 million project finance agreement covers the construction of four solar power plants in Romania with a combined capacity of 75 MWp. Lazuri is one of the projects being delivered under this financing package.
Romania is an important market for R.Power
The Lazuri farm is one of the key components of R.Power’s Romanian portfolio, which includes projects with a combined capacity of around 1.5 GW. The company is developing projects in the country using various energy technologies, in line with its strategy to expand its European portfolio of renewable energy generation and storage assets.
R.Power operates in six European markets: Poland, Romania, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain. The company is active across the entire investment chain, from site acquisition and project development through construction to commercialisation and long term asset operation.
Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Warsaw, the company has around 2 GW of assets in operation or under construction. Its portfolio of projects with secured grid access exceeds 13 GW and includes developments with a range of technological profiles.
Energy storage in the growth strategy
R.Power is also developing battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The company’s strategy involves expanding both standalone storage facilities and hybrid installations that combine energy storage with renewable electricity generation.
Storage facilities can support power system flexibility by shifting some electricity supply to different times and improving the system’s ability to respond to fluctuations in generation from weather dependent sources. The development of such solutions is one of R.Power’s investment priorities across European markets.
The group’s strategic capital partners are the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund (3SIIF), whose exclusive investment adviser is Amber Infrastructure.
The planned energisation of Lazuri at the end of 2026 will mark another stage in R.Power’s development in Romania. Once operational, the farm is expected to supply renewable electricity to the grid, strengthening the company’s generation portfolio in one of its key European markets.
