Polish transmission system operator PSE has awarded Aldesa another contract, this time for the construction of Section II of the 400 kV Choczewo–Gdańsk Przyjaźń overhead power line. It is the third contract that PSE has entrusted to Aldesa under the grid expansion programme in northern Poland, and its value exceeds PLN 200 million net.
The entire Choczewo–Gdańsk Przyjaźń line is almost 90 km long and will connect the Choczewo substation with the Gdańsk Przyjaźń substation in Żukowo commune. The route runs through the territory of ten municipalities: Choczewo, Gniewino, Kartuzy, Linia, Luzino, Łęczyce, Przodkowo, Somonino, Szemud and Żukowo.
The investment is being implemented in two stages, with the construction of the first section already in progress.
A key link for offshore wind power
Energy from the Choczewo station will be transmitted towards the central part of Poland through four extra-high voltage lines. One of the most important elements of this system is the Choczewo–Gdańsk Przyjaźń line, which will make it possible to connect offshore wind farms to the National Power System.
The project adapts the national transmission grid to the growing role of renewable energy sources.
Contract scope and Aldesa’s track record
The contract covers comprehensive construction work, from the preparation of working documentation, through the construction of foundations and tower structures, to the installation of conductors and the implementation of auxiliary infrastructure, including the protection of collisions with existing infrastructure.
– This is another 400 kV line section entrusted to us by PSE, and another proof of trust in the Aldesa team in Poland. Every line project we carry out has different terrain and administrative challenges, but our experience allows us to deliver them consistently on schedule. PSE is a key client for us – said Rafał Kański, general director of Aldesa in Poland.
Aldesa has so far completed nearly 280 km of extra-high voltage power lines in Poland.
