Progress on Port Polska: two important construction permits issued

Port Polska has obtained construction permits for two airport rescue and firefighting stations. The facilities will be responsible for safety at the future airport. The permits were issued by the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.

The main fire station will be built in the municipality of Teresin, in the village of Skrzelew. It will secure the northern runway and adjacent air movement areas. The building will have two floors and a usable area of nearly 5,300 square meters.

The satellite station will be located in the municipality of Wiskitki, between the villages of Duninopol and Podbuszyce. Its task will be to protect the southern runway and initiate rescue operations before support arrives from the main station. The building will also have two floors, with a usable area of over 2,100 square meters.

Infrastructure and operational readiness

The investment covers not only the stations themselves but also all necessary technical infrastructure, internal and external installations, building equipment, and land development. Once completed, both facilities will function as fully equipped rescue centers.

Crews from the airport rescue and firefighting service will work at both stations. They will be responsible for responding to accidents and incidents. The project was designed to enable the fastest possible departure of specialized rescue vehicles with full firefighter crews after an alarm is raised.

– Obtaining these permits is a key milestone for the entire Port Polska project – said Anna Kowalska, spokesperson for Port Polska. – The new stations will guarantee the highest level of safety for passengers and airport staff from day one of operations.

Speed and coordination in emergencies

The main station will also handle rapid restoration of operational readiness after interventions and will support the satellite station. The location of both facilities was chosen to minimize response times to any incident on either side of the airport.

The satellite station serves as a first-line defence. In the event of an emergency on the southern side, its team can begin rescue work immediately, buying time for the main forces to arrive. This creates a robust safety net for the entire airport area.

– Every second counts in aviation emergencies – added Michał Nowak, chief of airport rescue services at Port Polska. – The new stations are designed to cut our response times dramatically. That means more lives saved and less damage in critical situations.

Next steps for Port Polska

The issuing of these two permits confirms that the project is advancing according to plan. Port Polska is one of the largest infrastructure investments in Poland. It involves building a new central airport and modernizing the country’s transport links.

The next stages include finalizing designs for the passenger terminal, the rail connection, and other key elements. Construction of the fire stations is expected to start later this year. The target remains to open the airport in the early 2030s.
