Polish grid operator PSE orders cables worth over PLN 445 million from domestic firms

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), the Polish power grid operator, has signed a framework agreement with two domestic companies – NPA Skawina (part of the Boryszew group) and Fabryka Przewodów Energetycznych in Będzin – for the supply of over 13,000 km of phase conductors for high-voltage lines. The total value of the agreement is PLN 362 million net (PLN 445.4 million gross).

Deliveries are scheduled for the years 2026–2031. The contracts were awarded through a public procurement procedure, according to a PSE statement.

– Cooperation with domestic producers fits into the philosophy of maximizing local content and building the country’s economic security. By shortening supply chains, we will limit the risks associated with the delivery of components necessary for the development of the transmission system – said Włodzimierz Mucha, vice-president for investments at PSE.

Planned use in key infrastructure projects

The conductors are planned to be used in nine PSE investment projects, including the construction of new 400 kV lines to transmit power from the nuclear power plant to a new substation near the Tri-City area, a new line from the Tri-City area to Grudziądz, the modernization of the 400 kV Gdańsk Błonia–Olsztyn Mątki line, and the construction of a line from the Choczewo substation, which will receive power from offshore wind farms.

Benefits for domestic industry and the Boryszew group

The estimated total value of orders to be executed by NPA Skawina under the agreement is approximately PLN 250 million net. The contract will enable further development of the Boryszew Group’s competences in cable production, in line with its strategy for 2025–2029, which assumes expanding production capacities and competences in the production of aluminum cables, as stated in Boryszew’s announcement.

In 2025, the Boryszew Group reported consolidated revenues of PLN 4.84 billion, a decrease of 5.5% compared to 2024. Net profit fell by 71% to PLN 35 million. In the first quarter of 2026, revenues were down 4.8% year-on-year to PLN 1.275 billion, but profitability and EBITDA improved. The company cites cost pressure in Europe and sees opportunities in electromobility and the defense industry.
