Polish company Promot becomes Abrams parts supplier

Poland’s Promot, a family-owned metalworking company, has joined the global supply chain for Abrams tanks, becoming the eighth Polish supplier of components for the program. With 52 parts already produced by Polish firms, the collaboration marks a shift from mere equipment purchases to building domestic industrial capabilities.

The partnership between General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) and Promot – Zakłady Metalowe focuses on high-precision metal parts, including forgings and CNC-machined components from special steels and aluminum. These are destined for both servicing the existing Abrams fleet and producing new tanks for Poland’s armed forces.

Poland has ordered 366 Abrams tanks and is developing a regional maintenance center in Poznań. But the industrial dimension is gaining prominence: without a formal offset agreement, a functioning ecosystem of Polish suppliers is emerging, covering production, service, training and supplier development.

From component supplier to strategic partner

Promot is one of eight Polish companies currently manufacturing components for Abrams tanks. Together they produce 52 distinct elements supporting both maintenance and new production. This means that local content in the Abrams program is not just a declaration – it is an ongoing process integrating Polish firms into a strategic supply chain.

– We are proud that this year Polish soldiers will receive Abrams tanks containing components made in our plants. Every part matters for the safety and reliability of the entire platform – said Przemysław Chybiorz, president of Promot.

The program covers over 10 user nations and more than 5,000 tanks globally, giving Polish suppliers access to a vast international market. For GDLS, working with Promot provides rare and highly specialized metalworking skills. For Promot, it is an opportunity to transfer its automotive expertise to one of the most demanding defense supply chains.

Building a resilient defense ecosystem

The collaboration goes beyond single orders. It strengthens Poland’s industrial base, supply security and the entire support system for the Abrams fleet on NATO’s eastern flank. – Integrating Polish companies into our supply chain builds capabilities that matter not only for the Polish Abrams fleet, but for the global user community – said Christopher Brown, vice president of global strategy and international business at GDLS.

Current cooperation is just the beginning. The inclusion of Polish firms in the Abrams program creates a foundation for expanding local content, adding more players to the supply chain and potentially co-producing Abrams tanks in Poland. In this model, the purchase of equipment does not end the industrial relationship but becomes the starting point for building durable military, industrial and economic capabilities.
