Fabryka Przewodów Energetycznych (FPE) in Będzin has signed a framework agreement with Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) worth 445.4 million zlotys gross for the supply of over 13,000 km of conductors for extra-high voltage lines. The contract, which could generate around half a billion zlotys in revenue for the company, is closely tied to Poland’s plans to build its first nuclear power plant. FPE has announced plans to expand its production capacity by 70 percent by 2027.
The framework deal covers the supply of phase conductors between 2026 and 2031. The exact scope of deliveries will be determined in subsequent orders placed by the transmission system operator. The conductors are destined for nine projects, including the construction and modernization of 400 kV lines in Pomerania and Warmia, as well as infrastructure related to the planned nuclear power station.
FPE was selected as one of two suppliers in the tender. The company’s order book for 2027 already matches the production volume achieved in previous years. The contract is seen as a major boost for the state-controlled manufacturer, which has been operating in Będzin since 1928 and specializes in copper and aluminum conductors for the energy, railway, and industrial sectors.
Expansion plans and state backing
To handle the increased workload, FPE intends to expand its production facilities in Będzin. One of the financing options being considered is another capital injection from the Industrial Development Agency (ARP), which currently holds 79.2 percent of FPE’s shares. The remaining 20.8 percent belongs to the State Treasury, and there are discussions about transferring the state’s stake to ARP.
In 2025, ARP already provided a total of 34.5 million zlotys to the company. The planned expansion would increase the output of copper and aluminum conductors by roughly 70 percent compared to previous levels.
Strategic importance for Poland’s energy infrastructure
– This framework agreement with PSE is more than a business contract. It is a vote of confidence and confirmation that Polish industry has the competence to handle the modernization of the country’s strategic infrastructure. We are not only able to supply conductors – we are able to supply certainty that the energy of tomorrow will flow safely – said Agnieszka Rupniewska, president of FPE.
The contract comes at a time when Poland is accelerating investments in its power grid to accommodate new generating capacity, including offshore wind farms and the planned nuclear reactor. The first Polish nuclear power plant, to be built in Pomerania, requires a robust transmission network to connect it to the rest of the country. FPE’s conductors will be used in several key lines, making the company an integral part of this national endeavor.
FPE has been a fixture of the Polish industrial landscape for nearly a century. The company’s roots date back to 1928, and its products are used not only in Poland but also exported to other European markets. With the PSE contract, the factory is expected to secure a stable revenue stream for years to come, while contributing to the country’s energy security and transition.
