Poland starts first-ever rocket production facility

Construction work has begun in Gorzów Wielkopolski on Poland’s first rocket ammunition factory, a step that will give the country its first domestic production of missile rounds. The plant, developed by Hanwha WB Advanced Systems, will produce CGR-080 rounds for the HOMAR-K artillery system.

The project is valued at roughly PLN 1.5 billion and should create more than 100 jobs. It is being carried out by Hanwha WB Advanced Systems, a consortium built around WB Electronics, the largest private defence company in Poland, and South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace. Once production is launched, the plant is expected to employ about 150 people, including South Korean specialists.

The investment figure was reported in December by Rzeczpospolita. Work at the Gorzów Wielkopolski site has now moved beyond planning, making it the first construction stage of the missile programme.

December contract for CGR-080

The factory is linked to a procurement agreement signed in December by the Polish Armament Agency with Hanwha WB Advanced Systems. The contract covers more than ten thousand CGR-080 rockets, each with a range of 80 km, and is worth around PLN 14 billion. Deliveries under the deal are planned for 2030-2033.

– For the first time in history, missile rounds will be produced in Poland. This is a clear signal to our adversaries, and to anyone who would ever dare to raise a hand against the Republic of Poland – said Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Bejda.

Homar-K in the Polish artillery

HOMAR-K is one of the most important programmes in Polish artillery. Under current executive contracts, Poland has ordered about 290 launcher modules in total. The system is similar to the American HIMARS and has been used successfully by Ukrainian forces defending against Russia.

The HOMAR-K system is based on the South Korean K-239 Chunmoo launcher. Like HIMARS, it can fire various types of rockets, including ballistic missiles with a range of up to roughly 300 km.
