Poland scrambled fighter jets in the middle of the night. Russia attacked Ukraine again

On the night of June 1-2, 2026, Poland scrambled its fighter jets in response to massive Russian strikes on Ukraine. The operation was purely precautionary, and no airspace violation was reported.

Around 2:00 AM, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command announced that long range Russian aviation had become active. The Russians were carrying out attacks using airborne means of destruction against targets in Ukraine.

In line with standard procedures, Polish military aviation was immediately scrambled to operate within the country’s airspace. Ground based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance units were placed on high alert as well.

The Operational Command made it clear that these steps were strictly preventive and aimed at securing Polish airspace, especially in regions close to the threatened areas. Authorities also warned residents in eastern parts of Poland that they might hear increased noise from military aircraft overflight.

No violation of Polish airspace, all clear given

Fortunately, the night’s events ended with only precautionary measures. None of the missiles launched on either the Ukrainian or Russian side posed a direct threat to Poland.

Around 4:00 AM, the Operational Command confirmed that the operation of military aviation in connection with the Russian strikes had concluded.

The ground based air defense and radar systems returned to their standard operational routine. The military emphasized once again that no violation of Poland’s airspace had been recorded.

For many Poles living near the eastern border, this was a familiar reminder of how the war in Ukraine repeatedly forces their country to remain on constant alert, even without direct combat involvement.

Allied support in the skies.

In its final statement, the Operational Command extended thanks to Poland’s allies. Gratitude was expressed to NATO, the NATO Air Command, and the French Air and Space Force, whose aircraft helped ensure security over Polish airspace.

Thanks were also directed to the Dutch Armed Forces. This incident highlights that Poland regularly undertakes such preventive actions, especially during major Russian missile barrages on Ukraine, always in close coordination with its North Atlantic Treaty Organization partners.

The allied presence serves both as a deterrent and as a practical reinforcement of the eastern flank. While no actual engagement took place this time, the rapid activation of air defense systems and foreign support demonstrates the high state of readiness maintained along NATO’s most exposed frontier.
