Drivers planning holidays should check how much they will pay for petrol and diesel at stations. In Poland, the price of a liter of diesel is about to exceed 8 PLN. In neighboring countries it is even more expensive. Crude oil prices around $100 per barrel mean that until the end of the summer holidays, it can only get more expensive.
According to forecasts, next week will see continued increases in fuel prices, especially diesel to the level of 8.20 PLN per liter. Orlen offers spot deliveries of diesel to gas stations at 6.55 PLN net per liter, which gives 8.06 PLN gross, and the retail margin must still be added. Fuel prices across Europe rose by about 10-15 euro cents per liter in just one week. This means that going on vacation, you have to expect additional costs.
Crude oil prices have been breaking records on world exchanges for several days. After a temporary easing of tensions between the United States and Iran, we have had a real war for two weeks. Initially, markets reacted restrainedly to the suspension of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, but attacks on tankers and the involvement of Yemeni Houthis led to serious disruptions in the Red Sea region.
Diesel price to exceed 8.20 PLN per liter
In morning trading on Friday on Far Eastern exchanges, Brent crude oil was valued at up to $101.10 per barrel for August delivery. Apart from the impact of the Middle East conflict, the persistent shortage of diesel in Europe is an additional problem. The supply of diesel from Indian refineries has been partially reduced because Russia is now forced to import fuels, especially diesel.
– The accumulation of these bad news and events means that for two weeks fuel prices in Poland and Europe have exploded and the end of price increases is not in sight. We forecast for next week an increase in diesel prices at stations to a level above 8 PLN per liter. The average level will be 8.20 PLN, meaning there will be stations where the price is 7.90 PLN and those where we see 8.30 PLN per liter. Today on the wholesale market, the price of diesel is at 7.75-7.85 PLN gross. Under normal conditions, average margins at stations are around 50 groszy – said Robert Zywert, fuel market analyst at BM Reflex, in an interview with WNP.
Gasoline cheaper, LPG to rise later
As he adds, today’s spot wholesale prices of diesel at Orlen are 6.55 PLN net per liter plus VAT, which gives 8.07 PLN gross. – It is known that market discounts are applied, but under normal conditions the average level at a gas station is 8.20-8.30 PLN per liter – he notes. Petrol 95 is cheaper and the price increase is more limited because there are no shortages in European storage. According to BM Reflex estimates, next week at stations we will pay an average of 7.40-7.50 PLN per liter.
LPG prices always react with some delay to the situation on world markets. In two or three weeks, prices will probably go up. The average price of autogas is about 3.30 PLN per liter, but you can also expect bargains when a liter costs 3.15 PLN. It is worth recalling that not so long ago fuel prices in Poland were among the lowest in Europe, and the daily maximum retail prices set by the Ministry of Energy aroused envy among EU drivers. Today these differences are getting smaller and we are approaching the rates observed in Western Europe.
For comparison, on June 16 the price of petrol at stations was 5.97-6.10 PLN, and diesel cost 6.37-6.40 PLN. On the last day of the CPN program, a liter of 95 cost 6 PLN, and diesel 6.19 PLN. It took only three weeks for reality to look bleak. Drivers going abroad on holiday by car will also be shocked, because it took just a week for fuel prices to rise by 10-15 euro cents per liter.
