Preparatory works have started in Gorzów Wielkopolski for a factory that will produce CGR-080 missiles for Poland’s Homar-K launchers. The project, led by Hanwha WB Advanced Systems, assumes the first rockets will be manufactured in 2028.
The investment is being carried out by a joint venture of Polish defence company WB Electronics, the largest private defence group in the country, and South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace. The whole undertaking has been estimated at around PLN 2 billion, while the cost of the Gorzów plant itself was earlier reported by Rzeczpospolita at about PLN 1.5 billion.
Once production is launched, the facility is expected to employ about 150 people, including specialists from South Korea. The plant will make CGR-080 rockets with a range of 80 km, designed for the Homar-K system, and the schedule foresees the first units being produced in 2028.
December deal worth billions
Before the construction work began, the Polish Armament Agency signed a contract in December with Hanwha WB Advanced Systems for more than a dozen thousand CGR-080 missiles. The deal is worth approximately PLN 14 billion, with deliveries due between 2030 and 2033.
– This is the first time in history that missile rockets will be produced in Poland – said Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Bejda.
– This is a clear signal to our opponents, and a clear signal to anyone who would ever dare to raise a hand against the Republic of Poland – he stressed.
Homar-K programme is expanding
Homar-K is considered one of the most important artillery programmes in Poland. Under existing executive contracts, around 290 launcher modules have been ordered. The system is similar to the American HIMARS and has been used successfully by Ukrainian forces defending against Russia.
Like the HIMARS, the Homar-K, also known as K-239 Chunmoo, can fire various rocket types, including ballistic missiles with a range of up to about 300 km. The new factory in Gorzów Wielkopolski is meant to give Poland its first domestic source of missile rockets, a capability that the Homar-K programme has made a strategic priority.
