PKO BP hits new record on Warsaw Stock Exchange. Share price keeps climbing

PKO BP, Poland’s largest bank, set another all-time high during Thursday’s trading session on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, closing at PLN 113.44 per share. The bank’s market capitalisation has exceeded PLN 141.8 billion, bringing the psychological barrier of PLN 150 billion into view.

The previous historical peak was reached on July 10, when the price hit PLN 112.88. Since the start of the month, the stock has remained in an upward trend. On Wednesday, the share closed at PLN 109.86, but Thursday brought a decisive move upwards.

Thursday’s session opened at PLN 109.52. By 9:45 a.m., the price crossed PLN 110.00; at 11:00 a.m. it was already PLN 111.18, and at 2:20 p.m. it reached exactly PLN 112.00. In the final hours, the stock attacked the previous peak and finished the day at a new record level of PLN 113.44.

Strong sector results support bank stocks

Earlier in July, pressure on PKO BP shares eased slightly, but this was true for most large companies listed in Warsaw and for the banking sector as a whole. The situation changed with the start of second-quarter 2026 earnings releases.

mBank was a positive surprise, reporting a record quarterly net profit of PLN 1.06 billion. On Thursday, ING Bank Śląski and Bank Pekao published their results for the second quarter. Their figures are lower than a year ago, but market participants take into account the higher CIT rate in force since the beginning of 2026.

Financial institutions are benefiting from higher interest rates, which delivered a better interest result on deposits during the quarter than previously expected. Poland’s economic growth is also supporting demand for investment, consumer and mortgage loans.

For PKO BP, the scale effect appears to be working. In the first quarter, the group generated a profit of PLN 2.52 billion, the highest in the sector. The bank will present its Q2 and first-half results on August 13. Analysts expect these figures to be better than in the first three months of the year.

Dividend payment and the bank’s rally

In the short term, however, investors are focusing on the dividend from 2025 profit. The last day to acquire the rights is August 5, and payment is scheduled for August 13. The dividend amounts to PLN 6.14 gross per share.

Thursday’s record is part of a longer rally. On April 16, PKO BP shares cost PLN 66.56. The PLN 70 level was crossed on September 19, and PLN 80 on December 12. By December 30, the price had reached PLN 92.58, and on April 17 it hit PLN 102.00. The previous all-time high of PLN 112.88 was set on July 10 before Thursday’s close of PLN 113.44.

With the market capitalisation already above PLN 141.8 billion, the next psychological target for investors is the PLN 150 billion level. The upcoming results publication and dividend schedule could provide further triggers for the stock.
