Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG), Poland’s largest coal mining company, has reached an agreement with trade unions to broaden the rules for counting work seniority. The move follows a September 2025 amendment to the Labour Code, which mandates including periods of contract work, agency contracts, and other professional activities in the total length of service.
While many of the new regulations are not mandatory for PGG due to its separate internal rules governing employee rights tied to seniority, the company decided to harmonize its approach. The agreement between the management and union organizations ensures that the legally recognized periods of professional activity will now be applied not only to the general seniority count but also to specific employee entitlements.
Uprawnienia zależne od stażu pracy
Benefits affected by the change include holiday leave, severance pay, and additional bonuses that depend on the length of service. Previously, only employment under a standard work contract was fully counted toward these entitlements within PGG.
The new rules bring PGG in line with the broader labour market standards, where gig economy work and temporary contracts are increasingly common. The company stated that the goal is to provide fair and transparent treatment for all workers, regardless of the type of contract they signed.
Proces aktualizacji danych kadrowych
PGG has already started updating the seniority records for employees who submitted the required documents. The data is being entered and verified in the company’s payroll and HR system. The process is expected to take several weeks, with retroactive application to the date of the Labour Code amendment.
The agreement was signed by representatives of all major trade unions operating in the company, reflecting a rare consensus in the often contentious coal mining sector. PGG employs approximately 40,000 workers across its mines in the Silesian region.
