Orlen expands hybrid renewable model with 216 MW project in Wielkopolska

Orlen has completed the acquisition of a 216 MW hybrid renewable energy project in Kazimierz Biskupi, Greater Poland, that combines a 180 MW photovoltaic farm with a 36 MW wind farm. The complex is expected to produce around 315 GWh of electricity per year, with construction work planned to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

The purchase was carried out by Orlen New Power, the group’s vehicle for developing and managing onshore renewable assets. The two special purpose companies behind the solar and wind parts were acquired from Polish developers Onde and Neo Energy Group.

Under the cable pooling formula, the photovoltaic installation and the wind farm will use a shared grid connection. Orlen says this makes better use of connection capacity and limits the impact of variable weather conditions on renewable generation.

Polish companies stay in key roles

Onde will remain in the project as general contractor, while Neo Energy Group is responsible for construction management. Investor supervision on behalf of Orlen will be provided by Energa Green Development. The wind section will consist of nine Vestas V136 turbines, each with a capacity of 4 MW.

– With today’s acquisition we are increasing Orlen’s RES portfolio by a 216 MW project that will combine electricity generation from sun and wind and make efficient use of connection infrastructure. This is another concrete effect of our investment programme. We are developing assets that support Poland’s energy transition while involving Polish companies and strengthening domestic competences in modern energy – said Ireneusz Fąfara, CEO of Orlen.

First voltage to the grid is scheduled for early 2028, and full commercial operation should be reached in the second quarter of that year. The Kazimierz Biskupi site lies about 8 km from Orlen’s Kleczew Solar & Wind installation, another hybrid project also located in Greater Poland.

Hybrid cluster with 485 MW capacity

Together, the two installations will form one of the largest onshore renewable clusters in Poland, with a combined capacity of 485 MW. The concentration of generation assets in the same region is expected to create operational synergies in management and service-cost optimisation.

– The acquisition of the Kazimierz Biskupi project is a transaction combining large investment scale with advanced project maturity and efficient use of available connection capacity. The combination of solar and wind power increases the efficiency of grid infrastructure use, while strengthening the value generation potential of the Orlen Group – said Tadeusz Zborowski, Vice-President of Orlen New Power for Finance.
