Łukaszenka declares on Belarus’ potential involvement in war, points to one 'but’

Alaksandr Łukaszenka declared that Belarusians are peaceful people who do not want war, but also will not bow to the enemy. Speaking at a ceremony for military graduates, he accused the European Union of fueling „absurd hysteria” about an alleged Russian threat, while vowing that Belarusian soldiers will not be sent to fight in Ukraine.

During the event honoring graduates of military academies and officers, the Belarusian leader stated that the nation, having survived fascist occupation, rejects war at a genetic level. He insisted that Belarus does not seek conflict but will not humiliate itself before an adversary.

– The Belarusian people have endured incredible trials during the years of fascist occupation and do not accept war at a genetic level. We are a peaceful people, we do not want to fight, but we also do not intend to bow our heads before the enemy – said Alaksandr Łukaszenka, as quoted by the state agency BelTA.

Łukaszenka’s promises and accusations

Łukaszenka claimed that the European Union is hypocritically pursuing militarization while stirring up hysteria about an imaginary threat from the East. He accused Brussels of spending billions on offensive weapons under the guise of peacekeeping.

– Hypocritically declaring their commitment to peace, the European Union has openly chosen a course toward militarization, and that in fact means NATO. Billions are being spent on purchasing offensive weapons. At the same time, absurd hysteria is being fueled around an imaginary threat from the East – he stated.

The Belarusian ruler also alleged that an unspecified „international party of war” is doing everything to prolong the armed conflict in Ukraine. He repeated his promise that no Belarusian soldier would be sent to the front.

– Our alliance with Russia and commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. I repeat once again, dear comrades, no one will send you to that slaughter. We do not need war; it is bad that the war continues in Ukraine. We are supporters of a peaceful solution to problems. But, as I said, the international party of war does not want this – said Łukaszenka.

Ukrainian warnings and military preparations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that Belarus stop using transmitters on its territory that adjust Russian drone attacks on Ukraine. He warned that otherwise Ukraine would do it itself. Subsequently, Zelensky reported that by the end of June the equipment on Belarusian territory had ceased operating.

At the same time, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that Ukraine would have to form new brigades to secure the border with Belarus. According to him, the risk of Belarus being drawn into the war is becoming increasingly real.
