Iran has once again come under fire from American airstrikes, with the Pentagon confirming that targets included military bases and facilities deemed a threat to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Donald Trump has warned that any damage to civilian vessels will be paid for with frozen Iranian assets. Tehran responded with threats of its own.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that it struck Iran for the thirteenth consecutive night. The attacks lasted several hours. According to the statement, CENTCOM targeted Iranian military command centers, drone warehouses, communication networks, coastal surveillance posts, and naval capabilities to further reduce the threat Iran poses to civilian sailors and merchant ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media reported at least four deaths in Khuzestan province and two injured in a residential area of the port city of Bandar Abbas. Explosions were also heard on Qeshm Island and in the city of Jask, which have become regular targets of U.S. military operations, as they are key areas in Iran.
Thirteenth consecutive night of strikes
According to CENTCOM, around 50,000 American soldiers are currently deployed in Middle Eastern operations. The international waterway remains open for transit despite recent attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Merchant ships continue to sail freely through the strait with support from U.S. forces, the command added.
President Donald Trump threatened to use Iran’s frozen assets if Tehran retaliates with attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. – Let this statement serve as a symbol: from now on, until further notice, any damage caused to ships, cargo, or anything related to them will be paid for with Iranian money that the United States possesses and controls. These damages may be very substantial, but nevertheless it is fair and just treatment – Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Tehran warns of consequences
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of the consequences of Trump’s decision. – Those who profit from such funds should remember: when governments normalize confiscation, no one’s assets will be safe. The resulting chaos will not be nice or peaceful – he wrote on X.
The escalation comes as tensions in the region remain at a boiling point. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, has been a recurring flashpoint in the U.S.-Iran conflict. Tehran has previously threatened to block the strait in response to pressure, but so far has not followed through. Analysts say the latest U.S. strikes and Trump’s financial threat could push Iran toward a more aggressive posture.
