A car belonging to French influencer Carla Moreau was set on fire in Marseille overnight Wednesday to Thursday, according to Le Parisien. Authorities found a letter at the scene signed by the DZ Mafia, a criminal organization from northern Marseille implicated in murders, contract killings, and kidnappings. The 29-year-old influencer, currently in Monaco, has not yet publicly commented on the incident.
The arson took place in the Delta of the Rhône area of Marseille while Moreau was away from her home. Social media posts indicate she is staying in Monaco. French media report that she has been notified by authorities but has remained silent on the matter.
A threatening signature
The letter left at the scene, bearing the DZ Mafia’s name, strongly suggests the group’s involvement. Police have not disclosed its contents, and the reasons why Moreau might have drawn the criminals’ attention remain unclear. The incident comes just days after Christophe Rivenq, the mayor of Alès in Occitania, received death threats, leading to his evacuation by elite RAID police units and enhanced protection. Suspicions in that case also fell on the DZ Mafia.
DZ Mafia is a cartel-like criminal organization originating from the northern districts of Marseille. First mentioned in 2023, French police hold it responsible for contract killings, extortion, arms trafficking, and money laundering. Its modus operandi often involves intimidation and violence aimed at public figures and influencers.
Carla Moreau: from reality TV to social media stardom
Moreau rose to fame a decade ago through the reality show „Les Marseillais.” Today, she is a prominent social media personality and ambassador for the clothing brand Fashion Nova. She also runs her own leather goods company. Her public profile, combined with her French-Moroccan background and links to Marseille, may have made her a target.
Authorities are investigating whether the arson is linked to extortion attempts or a broader campaign of intimidation by the DZ Mafia against influential individuals in the region. The group has previously used similar methods to enforce debts or send warnings to rivals and those perceived as threats.
The investigation continues, with police analyzing the letter and forensic evidence from the burned vehicle. Moreau’s team has declined to comment pending further updates from law enforcement.
