Global player to build independent energy storage facility. It will support Polish logistics business

Portuguese energy group EDP, through its Polish subsidiary EDP Energia Polska, will build battery energy storage systems at the logistics center of Grupa Clip in Swarzędz near Poznań. The installation will consist of four BESS units with a combined capacity of 8 MW and 20 MWh, capable of operating at full power for up to 2.5 hours.

The systems will be installed directly on the site of the logistics hub, giving Grupa Clip greater flexibility and control over its energy use. The storage solution will allow the company to store electricity when it is more available and use it when it is most needed for operations.

Energy storage as a foundation of the new system

– Energy storage is becoming one of the foundations of this new system, enabling the construction of a more decentralized, flexible and efficient energy infrastructure. For industrial and logistics clients like Grupa Clip, this means moving away from the traditional energy consumption model towards integrated management of production, storage and use of energy. – said Bruno Sá Cunha, managing director of Client Solutions at EDP in Poland.

The project comes at a time when electrification, the growing share of renewables in the energy mix and price volatility are reshaping how energy is produced and consumed.

Growing demand for commercial and industrial storage in Europe

EDP noted that demand for battery energy storage is rising rapidly across Europe. According to SolarPower Europe forecasts, in 2026 the commercial and industrial energy storage segment in Europe will add nearly 6 GWh of new capacity, and by 2030 the total capacity is expected to reach about 68.7 GWh.

For Grupa Clip, the investment means not only greater energy independence but also potential cost savings and operational resilience. The project is also a signal that global energy players see Poland as a promising market for decentralized storage solutions.
