Fresh Growth: Żabka Opens 778 Stores, Posts 14.7% Revenue Jump

Poland’s Żabka Group has delivered a double-digit revenue increase in the first half of 2026, helped by the opening of hundreds of new stores. Consolidated revenue reached PLN 14.666 billion, up 14.7% year on year, with net profit for the period at PLN 249 million.

The group added 778 stores between January and June, bringing its total network to 13,063 outlets as of June 30, 2026. At the same time, it closed 54 shops – 26 fewer than in the same period of 2025 – and the closing rate fell from 0.7% to 0.4% of the total store base.

The group plans to open more than 1,300 stores this year alone. Expansion contributed PLN 1.164 billion to the year-on-year growth in sales to end customers. Like-for-like sales growth brought PLN 497 million, while the so-called New Growth Engines – including foreign expansion and e-commerce – generated an additional PLN 204 million of revenue.

Profitability improves alongside growth

The network push also improved profitability. Adjusted EBITDA rose 15.1% year on year to PLN 1.903 billion in the first half, with the margin at 11.5%, up 0.3 percentage points compared with the first quarter of the previous year.

– In the first half, we once again confirmed the strength and resilience of the Żabka Group’s business model. We achieved double-digit growth in sales to end customers, accelerated like-for-like sales growth in the second quarter alone, expanded our network according to plan and continued to improve profitability – said Tomasz Suchański, CEO of the Żabka Group.

Japanese giant backs away

The H1 report arrives days after Seven & i Holdings, the Japanese operator of the global Seven-Eleven chain, abandoned plans to invest in Żabka. In mid-July, the Nikkei business daily reported that Seven & i had entered final-stage talks about acquiring a stake in the Polish group.

According to unofficial reports, the deal could have involved buying tens of percent of shares from funds and other entities, with the investment potentially worth hundreds of billions of yen. When news of the potential entry first emerged, it triggered a sharp increase in the Polish company’s share price.
