French energy group plans €100 million investment in Poland

French energy group GreenYellow has announced plans to invest €100 million (approximately PLN 430 million) in Poland’s energy transition over the next three years. The funds will be used to develop renewable energy installations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and energy efficiency projects across the country.

The company, which already manages projects with a total capacity of 145 MWp in Poland, will base its expansion on a service-based model (as-a-Service). This approach allows clients to avoid capital expenditure while benefiting from long-term contracts covering financing, construction, and maintenance of installations.

GreenYellow is already working with major retail chains in Poland. In December 2025, the number of photovoltaic installations on Biedronka’s roofs reached around 2,300, with total capacity exceeding 100 MWp. These systems generate 100 GWh of electricity annually. Decathlon, another partner, is rolling out solar carports at 14 locations in 12 cities, with combined capacity of 3 MWp and annual CO₂ reduction of over 2,000 tonnes.

Retail sector scales renewable energy with as-a-service model

– The retail sector in Poland has entered the scaling phase of energy investments. We see companies moving away from pilot installations to large, repeatable deployments covering hundreds of locations. At this scale, even small energy consumption optimization translates into concrete savings and environmental benefits. The as-a-service model allows this without tying up capital or taking on technology risks. This accelerates transformation decisions – said Rolando Furlong, CEO of GreenYellow Europe.

The solution, known as PVaaS (PV-as-a-Service), involves long-term agreements where the investor finances, builds, and manages the installation while the client pays a fixed usage fee. Operational and maintenance services are included, guaranteeing performance over time without any upfront capital expenditure.

Industry embraces decarbonisation and energy storage

– We see growing interest in energy projects in industry. For many manufacturing companies, energy costs are now one of the most important competitive factors. Investments in renewables and energy efficiency are no longer an option but a necessity. Our projects for Orange’s data center in Warsaw and CMC’s plant in Andrychów are the best evidence – added Furlong.

Industrial sectors such as food processing, automotive, industrial automation, and wood processing are accelerating their decarbonisation efforts. Photovoltaic installations are increasingly paired with battery energy storage systems, allowing real-time management of energy consumption and maximising self-consumption. Energy efficiency measures, ranging from HVAC and refrigeration upgrades to cogeneration and process heat, represent combined project value exceeding €40 million.

GreenYellow, founded in 2007 and majority-owned by investment fund Ardian, operates in 15 countries across four continents. The company is also analyzing acquisition opportunities that could further accelerate its growth in the region.
