Famur is not abandoning the mining sector, contrary to some market rumors. The company’s CEO Mariusz Sośnierz has reaffirmed that mining machinery remains a core pillar of the business, with the Polish manufacturer’s solutions now operating even in China.
The global mining equipment market is undergoing a transformation, and Famur is adapting by focusing on technology, specialization, and organizational efficiency. Sośnierz emphasized in an interview that the company is not exiting mining but rather strengthening its presence both domestically and abroad.
Famur maintains a full product portfolio for longwall and roadway systems and is continuously developing them. The company has been active on international markets for years and sees significant growth potential overseas.
Global expansion and key markets
Among priority foreign markets, the United States stands out. Famur has been supplying underground mining equipment there for years, including powered roof supports. The company is now expanding its sales and service network in the U.S., competing with global giants and local manufacturers.
– We are also seeing increased activity from Chinese companies on international markets – noted Sośnierz. – Despite this, we have successfully entered China with our Mikrus system, a unique solution for mining thin coal seams. Two independent clients have chosen it, confirming its competitiveness – dodał prezes.
Other promising markets include Australia, Kazakhstan, and India. Famur is already cooperating with partners in India, where underground mining is gradually developing. The company’s solutions are also used in Italy and Mexico, demonstrating their versatility beyond coal.
Future prospects and investments
Around 80% of Famur’s production is still tied to mining. The company recently invested approximately 38 million zlotys in modernizing its machine park and technological base. It is also open to potential acquisitions that would strengthen its competencies.
– We are not moving away from mining – we intend to develop this segment consistently – Sośnierz stated. – At the same time, we are leveraging our expertise in other areas such as renewable energy, industrial gearboxes, and defense projects. These are natural complements to our core business – wyjaśnił.
The company is also consolidating production within its competence centers. For example, hydraulic component manufacturing has been centralized in one location to improve efficiency while maintaining full delivery capabilities.
Despite challenges faced by Polish coal producers, Famur sees opportunities. A recent example is a longwall complex equipped with an innovative electrohydraulic control system delivered to the Janina mine, part of Południowy Koncern Węglowy.
