The Nowosądecka Fabryka Urządzeń Górniczych “NOWOMAG” in Nowy Sącz will be liquidated. All approximately 200 employees will be affected by group layoffs.
The decision was made by the management board of Grenovia Famur NOWOMAG. Specific terms of the layoffs have not yet been announced; the management stated that information will be provided gradually over the coming weeks, during the summer holiday period, as reported by the local portal Sadeczanin.info.
Famur focuses on core business
The group will retain its other plant in Gorlice – Glinik, which is larger and more extensive. Part of the industrial activity is to be concentrated there, but even there part of the workforce is expected to be laid off.
– The Polish market is currently undergoing a period of change, which also translates into how mining companies plan their investments. For Famur, this means the need to flexibly adjust operations to changing customer needs and to focus on solutions that increase safety, efficiency and automation of extraction processes – said Mariusz Sośnierz, president of Famur, in an interview with WNP.
A facility with nearly 50 years of history
NOWOMAG was established in 1976 and operated as a state-owned enterprise until 2003 (as a joint-stock company from 1992). Since 2003, the plant has been part of the FAMUR Group. It specialised in producing equipment and components for the mining industry as well as wind turbines.
– Currently, about 80% of our production activity is related to the mining sector. This best shows that mining remains Famur’s primary area of operations and we intend to consistently develop it – president Sośnierz added.
He also emphasised that Famur is consistently implementing a model based on specialisation of individual areas of activity, concentrating certain processes and competences in locations with the greatest experience, appropriate technical facilities and the best conditions for further development.
