Electricity bills can be cut by up to PLN 500 a year

Nearly 60,000 households switched from a single-zone electricity tariff to one of Tauron’s multi-zone rates, such as G13, in the first half of 2026. That is twice as many as in the same period in previous years, and the company says it can cut annual bills by up to PLN 500.

The G13 tariff allows households to use cheaper electricity at weekends and during selected hours on working days. Tauron advises planning the most energy-intensive chores for those periods, which means only small changes in everyday habits are required.

According to Tauron, moving the operation of the most energy-hungry appliances to low-price hours can reduce annual electricity spending by up to 20 percent. Mariusz Purat, president of Tauron Sprzedaż, said the growing interest is also an effect of informational campaigns run for many months.

– We are glad that more and more households see the savings potential offered by multi-zone tariff groups, with small changes in the way they use more energy-intensive appliances – said Mariusz Purat, president of Tauron Sprzedaż.

Purat encourages customers to be more flexible and move the largest energy use to the hours and days when it is cheapest.

– We want households to be able to really benefit from lower energy prices during periods of surplus from renewable sources, especially at weekends. That is why since July we have made it possible to use electricity that is even 90 percent cheaper compared with the standard tariff, precisely at weekends and holidays – added Mariusz Purat.

A regulated tariff with real savings

Both the single-zone G11 tariff and multi-zone groups such as G13 belong to the so-called official tariff system. Electricity prices in these groups are approved and regulated by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE).

For the largest group of households, those using up to 2 megawatt-hours of electricity a year, switching from G11 to G13 can bring savings of close to PLN 500 annually with a small change in everyday habits. G13 is one of the most frequently chosen tariffs by customers who change their rate group for the first time.

Weekends with electricity up to 90 percent cheaper

At the beginning of July 2026, Tauron offered Tanie weekendy, a weekend tariff with electricity prices from 7 to 31 groszy per kilowatt-hour. That is up to 90 percent less than in the standard G11 tariff. The new offer rewards consumption at times when electricity is most available on the grid.

This situation is caused by oversupply from renewable energy sources such as wind farms and photovoltaic installations. Surpluses occur most often at weekends and holidays, when industrial demand is lower but generation from renewables remains high.

Experts estimate that shifting the most energy-consuming devices to the lowest-price hours can lower household electricity bills by up to 20 percent annually.
