Cpk accelerates high-speed rail construction. Seventeen companies qualify for mega contract

Spółka Centralny Port Komunikacyjny has admitted seventeen firms to the key stage of competitive dialogue for the design and construction of Poland’s first high-speed rail section. The 13-kilometre stretch between Kotowice in the Mazowieckie region and the airport node is a critical part of the future Warsaw–Łódź „Y” line. The contract is expected to be signed in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The list of qualified bidders includes major Polish and international players: Budimex, Mirbud, Mostostal Warszawa, Torpol, Trakcja, Unibep, ZUE and Porr. All applicants who submitted their bids were admitted to the next phase of the procedure, which will now focus on detailed technical and financial negotiations.

The scope of work covers the preparation of detailed design documentation, construction of 13 km of double-track line with a design speed of up to 350 km/h, and collision-free connections to existing railway lines No. 1 and 85. The project also includes expansion of the track layout near Kotowice, construction of maintenance facilities, service buildings, storage tracks, ramps and a depot. In total, about 37 km of new tracks will be laid.

A key piece of the „Y” puzzle

The Kotowice–airport section is the first to be tendered under the broader high-speed rail programme linking Warsaw, Łódź, the new airport, and eventually Poznań and Wrocław. According to CPK’s schedule, the entire Warsaw–Łódź stretch should enter service in 2032, with the line reaching Poznań and Wrocław by 2035.

– A major expansion of the A2 motorway is planned between Warsaw and Łódź, but above all, a high-speed rail line is needed. It will allow AeroExpress trains to efficiently carry passengers to and from the airport and between the two cities – said Dr Filip Czernicki, CEO of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny. – Our estimates indicate this could be as many as 100,000 passengers per day. I am pleased with the strong interest from experienced Polish construction companies.

Infrastructure on a massive scale

The winning contractor will also be responsible for building 55 bridges, road and rail viaducts, culverts and animal crossings, as well as approximately 40 km of service, access and public roads. The railway infrastructure will be designed for operational speeds of up to 350 km/h, placing it among the fastest in Europe.

Further tenders for other sections of the „Y” line are being prepared in parallel. The entire programme is part of Poland’s largest transport investment in decades, with the goal of creating a cohesive high-speed rail network connecting the country’s major urban centres and the new Central Communication Port.
