FlixBus has launched its seasonal line 666 to the Hel Peninsula, with the first departure of the new summer connection leaving this morning. The route links Krakow and Warsaw with the most popular Baltic resorts, including Władysławowo, Chałupy, Kuźnica, Jastarnia, Jurata, and Hel.
The new line will operate once a day, seven days a week, throughout the summer holidays. The bus departs from Krakow at 6:00 AM, reaches Warsaw at 9:40 AM, and arrives in Hel at 7:25 PM. The return journey from Hel leaves at 10:00 AM, a time the operator says allows passengers to check out of hotels and guesthouses without rushing.
– In response to growing interest in travel to the Baltic Sea, we have introduced a direct connection to Hel that enables passengers to reach the peninsula without troublesome transfers – said Michał Leman, vice president Europe East at FlixBus.
New features for travelers
New to the route are buses equipped with solar panels to support the power supply of onboard devices, as well as bicycle trailers. The trailers can hold up to 10 bikes, including electric bicycles. This is the first such option in FlixBus’s offering. The cost of transporting a bike is 5 PLN, and a space on the trailer can be added when purchasing a ticket.
– This makes it easier to plan an active trip with family or friends and to discover the scenic cycling routes of the Hel Peninsula from the very first moments of your stay – added Leman.
History of the controversial number
For years, the seasonal line 666 operated by PKS Gdynia served the Hel Peninsula, running from places such as Dębki or Karwia to Hel. The number quickly became famous due to the wordplay “666 do Helu,” which in English evokes the phrase “Highway to Hell.” For tourists and the media it was a catchy symbol of the summer route, but for some religious circles it was a provocation.
The issue made headlines in 2023 when PKS Gdynia changed the line number from 666 to 669. The operator cited passenger complaints and objections from people pointing to the biblical association of 666 with the “number of the beast.” The story was also covered by foreign media.
FlixBus’s seasonal offer also includes direct services to other seaside towns, such as Świnoujście, Międzyzdroje, Łeba, Kołobrzeg, Mielno, and Krynica Morska. In total, FlixBus maintains connections to more than 50 locations on the Polish coast. The company notes that some resorts have insufficient transport infrastructure and that the bus often remains an alternative to the car.
– We are observing that this season more people are planning holiday trips closer to home. The Polish coast remains one of the most popular summer destinations, so we are expanding our offer with connections to Hel and maintaining an extensive network of services to over 50 seaside towns – emphasized Michał Leman.
