Choosing the best skoda octavia: it’s not the most expensive one

Skoda Octavia and Toyota Corolla dominate Poland’s new car market. In the first half of 2026, Poles bought roughly 12,000 Corollas and 11,000 Octavias. Among Octavia versions, automotive experts have pointed to a specific variant that delivers the best balance of performance, fuel economy and price – the 1.5 eTSI with 150 hp.

The two models leave rivals far behind. The third best-seller, Kia Sportage, failed to exceed 8,000 registrations in the same period. „Auto Świat” magazine took a closer look at the Czech brand’s lineup to determine which Octavia version offers the most for the money.

According to the magazine’s analysis, the optimal powertrain for the Octavia is the 1.5 eTSI mild hybrid with 150 horsepower, mated to an automatic transmission. This engine combines decent acceleration and remarkably low fuel consumption.

The sweet spot: 1.5 eTSI with 150 hp

– Already has an automatic gearbox, accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, and average fuel consumption ranges from 4.9 to 5.3 l/100 km. It’s the optimal choice for the Octavia. It will be pleasantly dynamic and surprisingly economical – czytamy w „Auto Świat”.

The 150-hp version costs between 118,000 and 133,000 PLN depending on the trim level. For many drivers, this represents a solid compromise between driving pleasure and running costs, especially given the current fuel prices in Poland.

Alternative options and pricing

A cheaper entry point is the Octavia with the 1.5 TSI engine producing 115 hp and a manual gearbox. The base model starts at around 101,000 PLN. The magazine notes its performance: – Accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds, and average fuel consumption ranges from 5.2 to 5.7 l/100 km. For many drivers, such performance will be perfectly sufficient – wskazuje „Auto Świat”. The top trim of this version reaches 120,000 PLN.

At the opposite end of the spectrum sits the most expensive Octavia: the 2.0 TSI with 204 hp and an automatic gearbox. The best-equipped variant tops 151,000 PLN. While it offers more power, the price premium over the 150-hp model is substantial, making the mid-range eTSI the recommended choice for the majority of buyers.
