China Coal Energy, one of the Chinese coal mining conglomerates, announced June production of 10.95 million tonnes. The figure represents a year-on-year decline of 0.8 percent.
The latest monthly figure comes from the company’s announcement and was cited by Steel Orbis. According to the same data, China Coal Energy produced 61.95 million tonnes of coal in January-June 2026. This equals an 8 percent decrease compared with the first half of 2025.
The June result, although lower than a year ago, was close to the level recorded by the company in the same month of the previous year. The half-year numbers, however, reveal a more pronounced drop. Steel Orbis, which cited the figures, pointed to the 8 percent decrease in the six-month period.
Half-year results reveal a steeper slide
The difference between the monthly and cumulative figures suggests that some months in the first half of 2026 were weaker than June. The company’s semi-annual output of 61.95 million tonnes is significantly below the total from the corresponding period of 2025. That downward trend stands in contrast with the relatively small decline seen in the June data alone.
China Coal Energy is a significant part of the country’s mining sector. The company operates as an integrated conglomerate that brings together engineering and technology services, coal production and trade, coal-to-chemicals conversion, and the design of coal mines.
A broad business model in a coal-heavy economy
Coal in China remains important for the energy sector and other parts of the economy. Companies like China Coal Energy are active at different stages of the coal value chain, from extraction to chemical processing. The group’s ability to design mines and handle coal-based chemicals gives it a position that goes beyond simple mining.
The engineering and technology segment is an integral part of the conglomerate’s operations. This distinguishes China Coal Energy from businesses that focus solely on coal trading or extraction. The company’s portfolio covers the production and sale of coal, coal-to-chemicals processing and mine design services.
The June output of 10.95 million tonnes still represents a substantial volume of coal. The first-half result, however, shows that the company’s production is heading downward. Steel Orbis described the half-year figure as 61.95 million tonnes, or 8 percent less than in the same period a year earlier.
