Budimex has obtained a crucial permit that allows it to begin construction on the Zachodnia Obwodnica Zielonej Góry. The decision, issued by the Lubuski Urząd Wojewódzki with immediate enforceability, came four months ahead of the contractual deadline, opening the door for work on one of the region’s most significant road projects.
The ZRID decision covers the first two sections of the investment: the so-called Obwodnica Przylepu from a planned roundabout on Trasa Północna to a new roundabout in Przylep, and the construction of the Przylep roundabout with accompanying infrastructure. In total, the contract includes approximately 4 km of new single-carriageway, two-way road with exits, access roads, and two large roundabout intersections.
The project is multi-disciplinary and also involves building a pedestrian and bicycle path along the entire route, road lighting, a technological channel, drainage system, water and sewage infrastructure, culverts, retention tanks, and relocation of gas and power networks. Four engineering structures are planned, including a nearly 200-metre footbridge and cycle bridge with access ramps.
Key details of the investment
The permit was secured four months ahead of the contractual timeline. This is the result of very good cooperation between the entire design team and efficient preparation process. – Thanks to this, we can move faster to the construction phase – said Michał Wroński, contract manager at Budimex SA.
The contract for the project was signed in July 2024 between the City of Zielona Góra and Budimex SA. Completion is scheduled for April 2028, and the contract value is nearly PLN 43 million gross.
Impact on the region
The Zachodnia Obwodnica Zielonej Góry will relieve the city’s traffic system, divert transit traffic from the wojewódzka road No. 280, and improve safety and transport accessibility for the region. The design also incorporates solutions supporting environmental protection and the development of pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.
The investment is expected to significantly reduce congestion in Zielona Góra, especially on routes currently used by heavy trucks passing through residential areas. New roundabouts and modern drainage systems will also enhance road safety during heavy rainfall.
