President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Belarus has disabled relay stations used to control Russian drones after Kyiv issued an ultimatum. Alexander Lukashenko apologized for his harsh rhetoric and denies any military intentions against Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, the relay stations ceased to operate on June 22. – Faktem jest, że te przekaźniki dziś nie działają – oznajmił prezydent Ukrainy. He added that he does not yet know whether they were dismantled or simply turned off. Earlier, Zelensky gave Lukashenko a week to remove the equipment, threatening that Ukraine would do it if Belarus did not comply.
Lukashenko, in an interview with Al-Arabiya, apologized to Zelensky. – Jeśli Wołodymyr Zełenski poczuł się urażony, to przepraszam go za te słowa. Być może nie należało tego mówić, biorąc pod uwagę, że prowadzi on wojnę – powiedział Alaksandr Łukaszenka. He reiterated that Belarus does not intend to be drawn into the war and is ready for a meeting with the Ukrainian leader.
Ukraine’s ultimatum and the relay stations
Zelensky stated that in the second half of 2025, Russia deployed relay systems on Belarusian territory to control attack drones, increasing the ability to strike northern regions of Ukraine. He also accused Belarusian enterprises of supplying key components to Russia’s Orieshnik medium-range missile system.
The ultimatum came after the commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Browdi, announced on May 26 that the military had identified 500 targets in Belarus. – Ukraińskie wojsko określiło już pierwszych 500 celów na terytorium Białorusi – powiedział Robert Browdi. He also warned Lukashenko not to „lazić Ukrainie w oczy” – Nie lazł Ukrainie w oczy – dodał Browdi.
Lukashenko’s apology and earlier threats
In response to Browdi’s statement, Lukashenko threatened to strike a „very serious” target in Ukraine, claiming that Belarus had its coordinates. However, days later he backtracked, apologizing for his aggressive tone and reaffirming that Belarus would not join the war. – Białoruś nie zamierza dać się wciągnąć w wojnę Rosji z Ukrainą – podkreślił Łukaszenka.
The situation remains tense, with Zelensky closely monitoring whether the relay stations are permanently dismantled. The development marks a rare diplomatic victory for Ukraine in its efforts to limit Russian drone attacks from Belarusian soil.
