Polish solar developer Wento has started construction of the Grabin photovoltaic farm in the Opole region, with an initial capacity of 123 MWp and plans to add another 68 MW, bringing the total to nearly 191 MW. The project, located in the municipality of Niemodlin, will be the company’s largest solar installation in Poland to date.
The farm is being built on low-quality agricultural land (classes IV–VI) and will be executed in stages. Wento’s CEO Wojciech Cetnarski emphasized that the phased approach allows for adaptation to local conditions with a focus on safety, environmental compliance, and predictable cooperation with contractors, the local community, and partners.
– The Grabin solar farm together with its expansion is one of the key projects in the development of large-scale renewable sources carried out by Wento in Poland – said Wojciech Cetnarski. – The entire installation, with a total capacity of 191 MW, will provide real support for the national power system and respond to the growing demand for energy from renewable sources – he added.
Execution and supervision partners
Wento has contracted Onde and P&Q as the main construction partners. The investor’s supervision is handled by Eko-Witr Bis Krzysztof Statuch Spółka Komandytowa, while occupational safety and health oversight during construction is provided by Human-BHP. The choice of proven contractors reflects Wento’s strategy of maintaining high safety and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Wento’s growing renewable portfolio
Wento has been active on the Polish market since 2011, initially focusing on wind energy, and since 2015 also developing solar farms and energy storage systems. Currently, the company owns four solar farms and one wind farm with a combined installed capacity of about 200 MW. In 2021, Wento was acquired by the Norwegian energy group Equinor, which has been expanding its presence in Poland’s renewable sector.
The Grabin farm, along with its expansion, is expected to contribute significantly to Poland’s energy transition, adding substantial utility-scale solar capacity to the grid. The project also demonstrates the continued growth of large-scale photovoltaics in the country, supported by foreign investment and local expertise.
