Bechtel signs contracts for laboratory and site security at Lubiatowo-Kopalino nuclear power plant

Bechtel, the general contractor for Poland’s first nuclear power plant, being built in the Choczewo municipality in Pomerania, has signed two contracts at its new office in Gdańsk to support site preparation for the next phases of the Poland AP1000 project. The project is being carried out on behalf of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, which acts as the investor.

Bechtel is an American engineering and construction company founded in 1898, which, in a consortium with Westinghouse, is responsible for building Poland’s first nuclear power plant. Both contracts were signed with companies based in Gdańsk. The first, concluded with BARG M.B. Gdańsk, concerns the provision of laboratory services and materials testing to support earthworks and site preparation. The second, signed with MSA Security, covers security and protection services at the future construction site.

Under the two-year contract, BARG M.B. Gdańsk will establish and operate a materials laboratory on the site of the future power plant. The company will provide specialized equipment and personnel responsible for conducting research and analysis of materials used during the investment. The scope of work includes testing soil samples, backfill materials, and quality control of earthworks, and in later stages of the project also testing concrete and other construction materials used in the early phases. The laboratory will carry out sampling and analysis, conduct strength tests, and maintain quality documentation in accordance with project requirements.

– Signing this contract, just a few weeks after opening our new office in Gdańsk, is another step in strengthening Bechtel’s presence in Pomerania – said Leszek Hołda, President of Bechtel Polska.

– In delivering the project, we want to achieve the highest possible share of Polish companies, and we are pleased to be able to cooperate with another partner from Pomerania who brings their competencies and experience to the project – he said.

BARG M.B. Gdańsk’s experience

BARG M.B. Gdańsk has been operating on the market for nearly 30 years and specializes in laboratory testing for construction, geotechnics, and industrial infrastructure. The company has carried out projects for infrastructure and energy investments in Poland and abroad.

Quality control of materials is one of the fundamental elements of preparing any large infrastructure investment, and in the case of a nuclear project, it is of particular importance. Regular testing allows for confirming the compliance of materials with technical requirements and ensuring the appropriate quality and durability of work from the earliest stages of the investment.

– We view Bechtel’s selection of our company as confirmation of the highest quality and safety standards we have been developing in our company for many years – said Radosław Bryk, President of the Management Board of BARG M.B. Gdańsk.

– Projects carried out for the nuclear sector require a rigorous approach, precision, and reliability. We are confident that our experience and the competencies of our team will contribute to the efficient implementation of subsequent stages of construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant. The signed contract will also significantly contribute to the development of our company – in connection with this project, we plan to increase employment by approximately 25 percent – he said.

Security and safety at the construction site

On the same day, Bechtel also signed a contract with MSA Security for the provision of security services at the construction site of Poland’s first nuclear power plant. The scope of the contract includes providing security and protection services, including the protection of employees, guests, infrastructure, and property.

MSA Security, originating from Gdańsk, will support Bechtel in organizing a safe working environment at the construction site, including access control, supervision of the movement of people and vehicles, and ongoing support for physical protection and project safety measures. The services will be provided in accordance with applicable laws, project requirements, and safety standards appropriate for a strategic investment.

– Safety is the foundation of every investment carried out by Bechtel. The contract with MSA Security strengthens our preparations for the next stages of work and supports the creation of a safe, well-organized working environment for all people involved in the project – said Leszek Hołda, President of Bechtel Polska.

– Participation in Poland’s first nuclear power plant project is for MSA Security, on one hand, an important commitment and confirmation of our team’s competencies, and on the other, an opportunity for development – for the purposes of contract execution, we will launch a new training center in Gdańsk, among other things. We are pleased to be able to support Bechtel in ensuring the highest standards of protection and safety at the future investment site – said Sebastian Michalkiewicz, President of MSA Security.

Further contracts with Pomeranian companies

The signing of contracts with BARG M.B. and MSA Security are further elements of preparations for the next stages of construction in Pomerania of Poland’s first nuclear power plant as part of the Poland AP1000 project.

Both contracts support the development of the facilities necessary for the safe and efficient execution of work at the future Lubiatowo-Kopalino power plant site. Earlier, in February 2026, Bechtel signed a contract with the Pomeranian company DORACO for the implementation of the GEO2 and GEO3 geological and geotechnical testing facilities, and in May signed a contract with Unihouse for the construction of accommodation facilities for 1,000 key workers at the future power plant site.

Bechtel is consistently engaging Polish companies in the project’s implementation, following the philosophy of „we buy where we build.”
