Polish manufacturer PESA Bydgoszcz has successfully completed speed tests of a new electric multiple unit destined for Czech operator RegioJet. The train reached 200 km/h for the first time on the VUZ Velim test track in the Czech Republic, breaking a new speed barrier for the company.
The tests focused on traction parameters and high-speed stability. According to PESA, the vehicle confirmed excellent acceleration and smooth running at the target speed.
– The traction parameter tests were a success – the vehicle confirmed very good traction properties, including acceleration and stability at high speeds – said Bartosz Białkiewicz, director of the homologation and functional safety department at PESA Bydgoszcz.
– What is particularly important for us – the entire team involved in the tests, drivers, engineers and experts, rated the new design very highly – Białkiewicz added.
Next steps and passenger service
Further testing is now underway, and subsequent stages of the program are confirming the vehicle’s readiness for inter-regional service. The first monitored runs with passengers are planned for December 2026.
The new 200 km/h platform was designed with various standards of passenger rail transport in mind. It offers a two-class layout.
Technical specifications for cross-border operations
The models PESA EMU 666 and 667 for RegioJet are multi-system vehicles capable of operating on both 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC power supplies, enabling cross-border connections. The trainsets meet European TSI standards, are equipped with the ETCS Level 2 safety system, and offer comfortable seats in first and second class, a family zone, and a kitchen-bar area.
