2 billion złoty for building chargers for electric trucks

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) plans to support 170 projects that will result in 843 publicly accessible charging stations for heavy transport. The program is worth 2 billion złoty.

The investment also includes the construction of energy storage systems and the development of infrastructure with a total capacity exceeding 600 MW. The new infrastructure will be built mainly along the TEN-T core network, as well as in logistics centers and transport bases.

NFOŚiGW emphasizes that the program, titled „Support for the construction or expansion of publicly accessible charging stations for heavy transport,” is a key element of the transport sector’s transformation. It will create a network of infrastructure enabling the development of electric trucks, especially where they are most needed: on international routes and in logistics hubs.

Charging stations along key transport corridors

The new stations will be located along the TEN-T core network, near logistics centers and transshipment terminals, and in operational bases. These are places where heavy truck traffic is concentrated, so developing charging infrastructure there will yield the greatest environmental and economic benefits.

Each station will provide high charging power (at least 350 kW), significantly reducing stopping and charging time for trucks and facilitating the daily work of transport companies.

Two investment areas and financing details

According to NFOŚiGW, the funding is divided into two investment areas. The first covers investments along the TEN-T core network, i.e., on a road belonging to the TEN-T road network or within 3 km driving distance from the nearest TEN-T road exit. Support was recommended for 129 projects totaling over 742 million złoty. They will result in 687 charging stations with a total capacity of nearly 500 MW, plus 12 energy storage systems with over 44 MW capacity.

The second area covers investments near logistics centers, transport bases, or intermodal terminals, or within 3 km driving distance from these facilities. Support was recommended for 41 projects worth 200 million złoty. This will create 156 charging stations with a total capacity of over 103 MW and 6 energy storage systems with over 24 MW capacity.

Environmental benefits and program scale

NFOŚiGW assures that the implementation of these investments will reduce CO2 and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, improve air quality along major routes and around logistics centers, reduce noise in the vicinity of transport infrastructure, and support entrepreneurs in transitioning to modern, zero-emission solutions.

– Thanks to these investments, Poland is accelerating the construction of modern, zero-emission transport – more friendly to the environment, residents, and the economy – NFOŚiGW stresses.

The program is financed from the Modernization Fund, with a total budget of 2 billion złoty. It is one of the largest instruments supporting the development of electromobility in the heavy transport segment in Poland. In the first call for proposals, 352 applications were submitted for funding exceeding 2 billion złoty, which was double the available allocation of 1 billion złoty.
