Polish rolling stock manufacturer Pesa has achieved a major milestone by pushing a new electric multiple unit (EMU) for Czech operator RegioJet to 200 km/h during tests at the Velim test track in the Czech Republic.
The successful speed trial marks a significant step forward for Pesa’s new 200 km/h platform, which is designed for interregional services. The trains, designated EMU 666 and 667, are multi-system vehicles capable of operating on both 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC networks, enabling cross-border connections.
Test results exceed expectations
During the tests, the train demonstrated strong acceleration and stability at high speeds. Bartosz Białkiewicz, director of homologation and functional safety at Pesa Bydgoszcz, confirmed the success. – The traction parameter tests were a success – the vehicle confirmed very good traction properties, including acceleration and stability at high speeds – said Białkiewicz. He added that the entire testing team, including drivers, engineers, and experts, rated the new design very highly.
Next steps and passenger services
Further tests are underway to validate the vehicle’s readiness for commercial operation. The first passenger-carrying runs are scheduled for December 2026. The new platform complies with European TSI standards and is equipped with ETCS Level 2 safety system. Inside, passengers will find comfortable first- and second-class seating, family zones, and a kitchen-bar area.
