5 initiatives of KGHM recognized in the 2025 Good Practices Report

KGHM Polska Miedź has been recognized in the latest edition of the report 'Responsible Business in Poland. Good Practices’, prepared by the Responsible Business Forum. Five projects of the copper giant were included in the prestigious list, confirming the company’s consistent commitment to corporate social responsibility, ESG and sustainable development.

The distinguished initiatives cover a wide range of activities – from supporting employee families, through health prevention and environmental education, to volunteering and modern teaching. Among them are 'Birth of a Child Gift’, health campaigns 'Pink October’ and 'Movember’, 'Copper Bees’, 'Donut with a Noble Filling’ and the pilot project 'KGHM LAB’. Each responds to specific needs of the company’s stakeholders and brings tangible results in the local community.

– The best social projects are those that genuinely respond to people’s needs and bring visible effects in their immediate surroundings. At KGHM, we develop initiatives that support employees and their families, encourage health prevention, engage volunteers, strengthen education, and show that responsibility for the environment begins with concrete local actions. The presence of five of our practices in the report confirms that we are consistently building a model of social involvement based on cooperation, long-term thinking and responsibility for the region in which we operate – said Tomasz Półgrabski, Director of the CSR Department at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

Health prevention and family support

Health prevention remains a key area. Within 'Pink October’ and 'Movember’ campaigns, the company encourages regular check-ups and increases cancer awareness. Under the slogan 'You are important, get tested’, female employees could undergo cytology and mammography at the Copper Health Center during working hours, with transport provided. Nearly 400 examinations were conducted, accompanied by workshops on self-examination and a healthy lifestyle.

Another flagship initiative is 'Birth of a Child Gift’, part of the 'CUdowni Rodzice KGHM’ program. Employees who become parents receive a package with a congratulatory letter, a copper pendant on a silver chain and practical accessories for the baby. Over 2,500 'CUdowni Rodzice’ have already been covered by the program. The initiative also expanded to the city of Głogów, where parents of newborns receive an 'Album of a Little Głogów Resident’ along with the copper pendant.

Volunteering, bees and modern laboratories

’Donut with a Noble Filling’ is one of KGHM’s best-known employee volunteering projects. For over a decade, on Fat Thursday, employees collectively support the treatment and rehabilitation of children from copper community families. This year, nearly 100 volunteers from all KGHM divisions organized collections, prepared action points and encouraged participation. The project highlights the importance of solidarity and willingness to help where it is most needed.

’Copper Bees’ combines ecosystem protection with environmental education for children. KGHM maintains 18 beehives at selected company units. The initiative includes honey harvesting and workshops with beekeepers, during which young residents learn about the role of bees in nature and how daily choices can support environmental protection.

The KGHM LAB pilot project, implemented in three high schools in Lower Silesia, focuses on creating and equipping chemistry and physics laboratories to meet modern teaching needs. The company provided funds to local governments for comprehensive renovations and specialized equipment. KGHM LAB supports science education in a more practical, experience-based way, while investing in the quality of education and further development of the region.
